Towner County Soil Conservation District and North star School held their annual Eco-Ed day on September 29 at Nikolaisen WPA north of Cando. Each year the 7th graders are given a pre-test with various questions related to water, soils, and plants. They then attended the outdoor classroom and are tested again with increased scores showing that the hands on learning was very beneficial to the students. They rotated through 3 areas: woodlands and prairie, watershed and wetlands, soils and soil health. Mike Graue from US Fish and Wildlife talked a little about what WPAs are and how they are managed. Cool Beans pizza was served for lunch to everyone and tee-shirts were given to the students for their participation. It’s always a great day between the students and presenters and thank everyone that’s involved and participates to make it a success!
